After I was told that my son needed a Donor, I had many questions. Why was no one in the family a match. Why were there 14 million donors world wide and not one match for my son. Why out of 14 million world wide donors only 4% were from ethnic minorities. I needed to know why. So I started my campaign. Started raising awareness. Asked people the question...Why??? And here's some shocking facts that I was told "people actually believe that they will have a major transplant like a heart or brain transplant!" Also the majority of people think that a drill will go into the back of your Spine and chunks will be taken out. After hearing some of these myths, I came to the conclusion that people need to be educated. So, I contacted everyone and anyone that I could. I sent out approx 20 emails a day. Got to the stage where you could say that I spammed people! Luckily enough, an article was printed in the local newspaper. Unfortuantely, it didn't get the response that I had expected. My email address had been provided and not one email! I wasn't disheartened. First major break through was when ITN News wanted to do a story about Dean. I wasn't too thrilled about appearing on TV but at least I could get my message across and that was "We desperately need more people from ethnic minorities to come forward and register as donors. They could save a life." Here is the link for the story that ITV News did.

Now, I am planning a few things. I want to hold registration drives. This is where 4ml of blood will be taken and tested to see if you can become a donor. Also, I want to spread the word and encourage more people from ethnic minorities to join the National register. Also, I see that most countries have a registry but Pakistan is a country that unfortuantely does not have a Bone Marrow Register. I wish to start a registry in Pakistan so that if anyone in pakistan needs a donor they can check the interantional regsiter and like wise. So these are my plans at the moment. I want to help not only my son Dean but as many people and families that I can. We CAN make this happe. I just need your support and your encouragement. Need people like yourselves to come forward and become Bone Marrow Donors. Also I need people who can help raise awareness and help me succeed in my cause.

The plan is to work alongside The Anthony Nolan Trust, ACLT and National Blood Service.

We all need to spread the word and try and attend any bone marrow drives/registrations that you hear about and please help spreading the facts. Not the myths.

You will find different web sites on here. I am leaving it up to the individual to see which method will suit you to register. You can attend a drive or you can ask for the kit to be sent home or you can pop into your local National Blood Service centre and donate some blood and ask to be put on to the Bone Marrow register.
